Superman's Been Raiding Thor's Closet!

After many a moon since the release of our first teaser image of the new Man of Steel Superman movie, we're finally getting some high-quality shots of three of the main costumes from the film, and all I can say is... it looks a lot like DC is taking notes from Marvel's book. Jor-El and Faora's costumes look quite a bit like something from Thor, and that is a VERY good thing in my opinion, and makes me much more hopeful that not only will this movie be good, but that it might actually try to set up a new DC Cinematic Universe as well. Far fetched hopes for sure, but hey- it could happen...

Sega: Finally Dead

So, after all these years, all these massive losses and mediocre, rushed efforts and Sega finally seems to have thrown in the towel and raised the white flag. They've essentially canned everyone and everything not related to Sonic the Hedgehog, Total War, Aliens and Football Manager. So in short? They're not going to make it much longer- and they're sure as hell never going to be the powerhouse they once were. Never shall we see a sequel to the (fantastic but highly underrated) Alpha Protocol or Viking: Battle for Asgard. Nor the highly demanded Shenmue III. Never again a peep from House of the Dead, Yakuza, Billy Hatcher, Golden Axe, Bayonetta (actually, she might be popular enough to get a new project with another company. Capcom?), Phantasy Star, terrible Marvel Movie tie-ins or even Jet Set Radio. Sega- you may not have done a lot to endear yourselves to the modern gamer, but I'll say this- I always respected you for the risks you took to publish fringe games, regardless of how much interest there was. Like Viking and Alpha Protocol. It's a shame your business strategies couldn't evolve to compete in the modern world, but you will be remembered fondly for the lion you once were, not the house cat you became, if there's any justice in this world.

CW's "Arrow" Looks... Surprisingly Like Green Arrow.

CW's upcoming TV show based on the Green Arrow, called "Arrow" because apparently the color green just isn't hipster enough for CW, has released its' design for the Green Arrow's actual costume. And it looks a lot like the Green Arrow. Huh. The Bow looks like garbage- but I doubt that it's the final one yet. I expected much worse from the people that brought us Smallville, but this is shaping up to be...not trash. Yet. We'll see, I'm sure.

The New Avengers Trailer is Made of Awesome!

The latest trailer for the Avengers came out today, and to say it is glorious is almost an understatment. Comprised of mostly new footage, we get to see an arsenal of new scenes and character interactions- including some dialouge from Black Widow and more of the "Invaders", who are still as secretive as ever, despite clearly being in the trailer (and above). I like the fan theories that whatever THIS thing is, it's related to Fin Fang Foom or the Midgard Serpent. I'm still holding on to the belief that the main villain is Kang, but I admit- I respect that Marvel has done such a mind-blowing good job at keeping the main adversary of the  Avengers hidden so long.

Avengers Toy Review- Cosmic Spear Loki

There’s been a lot of hate flying around for the new Avengers toyline; it’s mostly repacks, the figures are underarticulated, they’re too expensive and so on. Personally, I try to ignore most of this type of criticism and inevitably buy any and all figures that catch my interest, and I know I’ll need to buy at LEAST four of these figures. Fortunately, a lucky trip to TRU found a stash of figures released early, and I snagged one of my most anticipated figures from the line- so without further ado, here’s Cosmic Spear Loki.

A Nerd Movie Summer- Review Retrospective

I never got around to reviewing any of the many, many geeky movies that hit this summer, so I'm getting it all out of the way in a single go with really shor summary opinions. Let's do this-

Thor
Fantastic- my favorite movie of the summer. Great acting, great CGI, great fighting, great script, real repsect for the source material and a little toping of glourious continuity made not just a solid action movie, but the best Marvel movie to date.

X-Men First Class
Way too many continuity problems, but some terrific acting and wonderful script balance out the horrible team roster. As far as I'm concerned, it's a reboot in everything but name.

Green Lantern
It's like punching yourself in the dick with a crowbar. For two hours. And the damned suit has toes! CGI light-green grotesque toes!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Best of the three, Sam becomes pretty awesome for the first time, losing Megan Fox is nothing but a bonus. That said, the Autobots are back to being background characters like in the first one, while the Decepticons continue to get screwed as if they weren't characters to begin with. Good- but could've been much better.

Captain America: The First Avenger
I'd place it firmly between Iron Man and Thor. It was better than Iron Man, had great acting with a good script and an amazing grasp of the "feel" of being in the forties, but it didn't seem as fresh as Thor, and seemed rushed at parts. The Howling Commandos were mostly there to be there, and Bucky's "Death" just feels rushed- there's no sadness to be had from it. That said, it's another great movie under Marvel's belt, and I can't wait for the Avengers.

I still need to watch the newest Harry Potter, Cowboys and Aliens and Pirates 4, but for now this covers the majority of it.

Still No Rest For the Wicked

Borderlands 2 has just been confirmed by Gearbox, to the joy of many and the "Shit, I still need to get the first one!" from me. As one should expect, there will be new characters, weapons and places to explore as well new classes. The story will return to the world of Pandora, and will contain an "ambitious" story. So I'll be off to see if I can find the Game of the Year edition in a bargain ben for the rest of the year or so...

DC Universe Classics Subscriptions Are Getting Poisoned

So Mattel and their devil-board have decided to pray on their fans wallets further by offering a subscription service to DC Universe Classics, just like their current Masters of the Universe Classics. Currently, they haven't hit their needed goal for the line, and if they don't the line is probably screwed, but nonetheless- if the subscription service goes through, fans will get four exclusive figures- Starman, Atrocitus and Jay Garrick Flash, as well as the newly confirmed Poison Ivy, none of which will be making the line up in the coming year. I can understand fans wanting a Flash I or Poison Ivy, but with all the Power Ranger Ring glut we've had lately, I'd think people were about damn tired of it, and I have no idea who Starman is. I've always been a make mine Marvel kind of guy, and I'm not a fan of Mattel- but if Hasbro did this for Marvel Universe (Without threatening to kill the line if you don't do it), I'd be A-Okay with that. You listening guys?

If Celebrities Die in Threes...

...Then Comic Book characters must die in pairs. Hot on the heels of the Death of (Ultimate Universe) Spider-Man, Dark Horse has revealed an upcoming death that has actually made me a very, very sad and surprised Panda. Spoilers, obviously- Hellboy will be joining the Dead Pool on Wednesday, the tenth in Hellboy: The Fury #3. Daaaaaayum. While I don't think this is "permenant", I do think this is how Hellboy's Anung Un Rama storyline will be concluded- he'll probably be back, but Hellboy will be dead- only the demon that tries to bring about apocalypse will remain. Just my two-cents.
